Introducing ‘Litmags, etc.,’ an X list of literary journals

One of the best things to come out of the social media platform formerly known as Twitter (now X) is Lists, a tool to help denizens of that website organize, categorize and curate social media accounts by subject or interest.

Even though the platform has become less useful, less interesting, and more soul-sucking since Elon Musk bought it, you can still find nuggets of value as long as you use it wisely and stay away from the cesspool of the general feed. One way of walling yourself off from that toxicity is by creating lists of the accounts you most want to follow, or by following lists curated by trusted sources.

I find the lists function helpful as a way to create groupings of accounts by topic. For example, in my past life as a higher education CMO, I created a list of journalists and media outlets that report on higher ed news that I can access whenever I want to check out the latest news about colleges and universities, or see what the journalists are chatting about. I also subscribe to lists created and curated by others.

Introducing ‘litmags, etc.’

Recently, I started compiling a list of X accounts of literary magazines and journals. At this point in its development, Litmags, etc., is an incomplete compilation of litmags large and small, well-known or obscure. It’s still very much a work in progress. I’ll add to it as I discover more relevant sites on X.

The “etc.” part of the list pertains to related accounts like small presses, a few writers and editors, and big-time accounts like New York Times Books, Publisher’s Weekly, and Poets & Writers.

So if you’re on X and want to see what’s going on in the world of literary magazines, I encourage you to check out my list. It’s a great way to discover new literary outlets, find more stories, poems, and essays to read, and see what the people behind these sites are discussing on social media.

And if you happen to know of a litmag on X that is not yet on my list, please feel free to comment below or message me on X (@andrewcareaga).

P.S. – If you’re not interested in the social aspect but want to know what litmags are out there, check the very thorough Poets & Writers’ list
