Andrew Careaga (Andy) retired in 2024 from a 40-year career in journalism, public relations, marketing, and strategic communications to begin a new chapter focused on writing fiction, creative non-fiction, and poetry. Since then, his work has appeared or soon will appear in numerous online literary magazines, including The Argyle, Burial Magazine, Frazzled Lit, Flash Fiction Magazine, Hidden Peak Press, In Short, Orange Rose, Paragraph Planet, Roi Fainéant, Some Words, and Spillwords. (Visit his “Seen Elsewhere” page to see a comprehensive list of his writings.) One of his micro stories, “Spindled,” was nominated for the Best Micro Fiction Anthology of 2026. He lives in Rolla, Missouri, USA.
Prior to his 2024 retirement, Careaga spent the bulk of his professional career–nearly 33 years–at Missouri University of Science and Technology (S&T), where he held a variety of communications-related roles, including director of communications, chief marketing and communications officer, and chief of staff to the chancellor.
Careaga is also the author of three books related to the intersection of the internet and spirituality, an interest he developed during his years as a volunteer youth minister. (You can learn more about those books on his Amazon author’s page.)
