About

20240213 Andy Careaga 4Hello. Andrew Careaga here. I also go by Andy.

I have over 40 years of experience in the communications field, working as a journalist, public relations and marketing professional, chief of staff, brand manager, and magazine editor.

Most of my career — nearly 33 years — was spent working in higher education at Missouri S&T, where I held a variety of communications-related positions, including chief marketing and communications officer.

In January 2024, I retired from the university to begin a new chapter of life focused on exploring the world of creative writing while continuing my freelance and consulting work.

This website is home base for my musings on writing, creativity, philosophical and spiritual matters, and various other subjects. It’s a departure from my former writings in this space, which focused on marketing- and higher ed-related topics on a blog I creatively dubbed “Higher Ed Marketing.” I ended that effort in May 2018.

I’m not a newbie to writing and publishing. I’m the author of three books about the intersection of the internet and spirituality. (You can learn more about those books on my Amazon author’s page.) I’ve also done extensive freelance writing, off and on, during the course of my career.

But this is the place where I’ll share my thoughts on the craft of writing. I also will share the thoughts of other writers.

I’m not in the same league as The Office‘s Michael Scott, who kept a full-blown screenplay stashed in his Dunder Mifflin desk drawer (until it was discovered and read), but I’ve long harbored a desire to get back into creative writing, and now I have more time to devote to it. I hope you’ll join me on this journey.

If you want to get in touch, feel free to reach out. I look forward to hearing from you.
