A couple of months ago I posed the question on this blog, Should universities tweet? and received a good response. (I also posed the question on Twitter and got a great response there, too.) More recently, Kyle James has explored the same topic, in more detail, and with video.

Kris over on the University Web Developer discussion about Twitter threw out the idea to just get your college name so someone else doesn’t. I think this is a great suggestion and the way to go and as Mike wrote about on HighEdWebTech it’s easy enough to use twitterfeed to syndicate your institutions RSS feed to the twitter account. Following their advice I picked up WoffordCollege on twitter last week and am planning on setting up the twitterfeed either this week or next. I mean why not? Currently we don’t have any followers, but you could do all this in less than an hour and when it comes up, because just like facebook administration will eventually ask about it, you can say you have already done that much.
So I’m adding that to discussion. :)
Have you seen summize.com? A little spooky – everyone’s tweets are in the open, for instance, http://summize.com/search?q=andrewcareaga
Summize has an api, allows sending tweets from searches AND allows you to follow your search term with RSS. Privacy? Yikes!
Kyle – That’s precisely why I set up a Twitter account for Missouri S&T (see http://twitter.com/missourisandt — darn that ampersand in our new name!), so no one else would lay claim to it first.
