Happy birthday, PROpenMic

No April Fool’s joke: the PROpenMic social network turned a year old on April 1. PROpenMic founder Robert French posted his reflections on the network’s first year, which saw some impressive growth.

Housed on Ning, PROpenMic connects public relations students with practitioners in a closed network.

Congratulations, Robert, on the success of this site. Here’s to another great year.

Another name change in the works?

Long-time readers of this blog know that I was heavily involved in the process of rebranding the university where I work when it changed its name in 2008 from the University of Missouri-Rolla to Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T for short). Now, it looks like we may be going through another renaming exercise — this time to better connect us back to our roots as a mining school.

The proposed new name is Missouri University of Science and Mining, or Missouri S&M for short.

I kind of like the proposed nickname. It’s catchy, in a strict, disciplinarian sort of way.

Possible taglines:

S&M: We beat the competition

S&M: we’ll whip you into shape

S&M: an education that can’t be beat

Spank you for attending Missouri S&M

Any other suggestions?
