I’ve been sharing some stuff I find interesting via my Google Reader stream. Take a look and discover some miscellaneous tidbits about social media, the year’s most retweetable Twitter posts, movie comparisons and the occasional how-to article.

Speaking of retweetable tweets, I see the No. 10 item comes from @shitmydadsays. It is this: Don’t focus on the one guy who hates you. You don’t go to the park and set your picnic down next to the only pile of dog shit. That’s a pretty good perspective. I’m still not going to follow that account, or watch the TV show based on it.

Remember Sydney? She’s a co-worker’s amazing daughter who went through a series of medical treatments earlier this year as part of the process to beat cancer. (I blogged about Sydney and her situation in October.) Well, Sydney celebrated her 3rd birthday on Tuesday, Dec. 14. And our humble effort to raise funds to help her parents with medical bills has netted more than $2,000. Thank you all for lending your support.

Sydney’s mom is now blogging about the experience. You should read it.

Speaking of music, the Higher Ed Critics are back and getting ready to unleash their diverse musical tastes on the world with a countdown of their favorite albums of 2010. But first, one of the critics, Chris D’Orso, charms us with a list of 15 Christmas Songs You Need to Know — all with accompanying video. Our countdown will arrive soon.

Friday Five: By the numbers (social thinking, PR disasters, changing the world, excellence, slowing down)

Short, sweet and to the point today. Here are five good blog posts that have two things in common: 1. numbers in the headline and 2. I found them via some folks I follow on Twitter.

  1. 5 steps to thinking more socially about communications, by Dave Fleet (via @ConversationAge).
  2. Top 10 PR disasters of 2010, from CommPRO (via @laermer).
  3. 5 social media companies that just might change the world, from Social Media Today (via @FasTake).
  4. 6 keys to being excellent at anything, from Harvard Business Review (via @ESpotlight)
  5. 7 examples of when slowing down is the right thing, by (via @RonEdmonson).

Good weekend, everyone.
