Sadly, because we had to change our name too – a wrench is now thrown into the logic of your style guide.
Jon – I think our style guide’s use of the full, formal name on first reference is still correct. Everything I’ve read in the Collected Rules and Regulations, and in press reports, indicate that the full name is still to be on first reference for official communications, with subsequent references to “University of Missouri,” “MU” or “Mizzou.” In our style guide, we explain that “MU” is acceptable on second and subsequent references.
