50 candles

Happy 50th birthdayI made it! Bring on the AARP card, baby. I’m 50 today, and ready to move into the happier, less stressed chapter of life.

But first, a big thank-you to everyone who donated to the cause to raise funds to help out a co-worker during my final month as a 49er. You have all proven that the power of loose networks and a community of practice can also be a powerful force for good. And as Davina Gould points out in a recent blog post, social media has not destroyed empathy.

Little Sydney Stoltz is responding well to treatment, but the family could still use a hand. So if any of you feel compelled to do something special for my birthday, please spare me the black balloons and chip in to help Sydney’s family with their expenses during this trying time. I promise, this will be the final time I plug that cause on this blog.

Off to find the cake.
