On this November day 11 years ago, I decided to start this blog. (Here’s the glorious first post). During the ensuing years, I’ve blogged about a lot of things related and tangential to higher ed, marketing, higher ed marketing, branding, PR, etc. I’ve also blogged about things that don’t exist anymore. Here are 11 of them. How many do you remember?
- Chief Illiniwek, the former mascot for the University of Illinois.
- Iterend, an erstwhile blog search engine.
- .eduGuru.
- “Recruiting for the MySpace generation” – LOL.
- 12second.tv — kind of like Vine, but long before Vine’s time.
- JuicyCampus.com — the digital watering hole for the college crowd, circa 2008.
- Google Reader.
- The TV show Community (original cast, including Chevy Chase).
- Higher Ed Solo. “For those who feel alone, but aren’t,” I wrote back then.
- Ms. Dewey, the “sexy” and “saucy” search engine with a human face.
- PRBlogs.org, the first host for this blog when I began 11 years ago.

One of the nonexistent things in my blogging history is the hosting environment, the distant ancestor of Apple’s “iCloud,” on which Cupertino pulled the plug some years back, although I’d already fled to “Blogger” by the end of 2007. All that earlier content is extinct, which is probably not a significant loss to the social and historical record as these things are generally measured.
Wow: has it been 11 years? Congratulations — I remember when you launched your blog (we were both a lot younger then). Thanks for all the great posts and the insights you’ve shared over those years. And keep them coming!
