Friday Five: start pages

Today is the lazy man’s Friday Five, totally hijacked from Lifehacker:

Five best start pages, as determined by Lifehacker readers.

No surprise to see that iGoogle (my start page of choice) is in the mix. It’s an easy-to-customize dashboard that shows me Gmail, RSS feeds, news and other personalized features. I get a lot of mileage out of it.

But iGoogle isn’t for everyone. My wife still swears by her My Yahoo! as her start page. Apparently, some folks like an anti-start page, as About:blank is one of Lifehacker’s top five.

Check to see if your favorite made Lifehacker’s list. You can also vote for your favorite.

Interviews with eduStyle blog award nominees

edustyle-awards-banner.gifKarine Joly at College Web Editor has posted her recent email interviews with the folks behind four of the six blogs nominated for the eduStyle Awards for best student blogs and best institutional blogs.

Disclaimer: I am the person behind one of the blogs in contention, Missouri S&T’s Name Change Conversations, and my interview is included in Karine’s post. My responses were articulate, well-reasoned and succinct, but please, don’t let that sway your vote. *wink wink nudge nudge*

Seriously, though. The interviews offer insight into the motives behind each of these outstanding blogs. Each entry seeks to achieve different goals, focusing on different audiences, and each seems to have made strides toward achieving the stated goals. I encourage you to read these interviews and then vote for the blog of your choice. While you’re at it, cast your vote in all the other eduStyle web categories.
