Another name change in the works?

Long-time readers of this blog know that I was heavily involved in the process of rebranding the university where I work when it changed its name in 2008 from the University of Missouri-Rolla to Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T for short). Now, it looks like we may be going through another renaming exercise — this time to better connect us back to our roots as a mining school.

The proposed new name is Missouri University of Science and Mining, or Missouri S&M for short.

I kind of like the proposed nickname. It’s catchy, in a strict, disciplinarian sort of way.

Possible taglines:

S&M: We beat the competition

S&M: we’ll whip you into shape

S&M: an education that can’t be beat

Spank you for attending Missouri S&M

Any other suggestions?

In other news of the day, Google announces a singular upgrade to your online life.

They’ve got a name for people like us…

Or several names, for now.

The folks at Marketing Addictionary are asking the mob to come up with a name for “A person, age 35 or older, who attempts to keep up with ‘the kids’… even if their job does not call for it.”

Some of the suggestions so far:

hipnot
Elite-Twit
Gen-Twex
geriatwix
techosaurus
e-keeper
