Welcome to the inaugural post of Friday Five interviews with fellow travelers on this writing journey. I plan to post occasional five-question email interviews to spotlight other authors and their work. We kick it off this Friday with a question-and-answer session with Nathan “Nat” Weaver, author of the Mercedes Masterson series of detective stories of the hard-boiled variety. The first in the series, Sweet Sixteen Killer, was published in 2020. The next book, Jonah of Olympic, is expected out later this year. Nat is also a personal friend and a friend of this website.

Friday Five: In the name of (link) love
Today marks the 40th anniversary of the death of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. The man who inspired U2 to create the song “Pride (In the Name of Love)” (link below) is the inspiration behind today’s Friday Five.
“An individual,” King once said, “has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity” (source).
With that in mind, I attempt to rise above my own narrow confines of blogging about my own concerns and offer you links to five higher ed blogs that don’t get enough mention on this blog, but should.
- UBrander, a blog by Rob Westervelt of Biola University and the latest member of the Blog High Ed collective.
- Weblogg-ed. Subtitle: “learning with the read/write web.” Not a PR/marketing blog but one that looks at education, teaching, learning, etc.
- Dennis Miller’s blog, The Higher Ed Marketing Blog. Never Mind that he stole the title from me, except he put a “The” in front of it (kinda like The Ohio State University did, as a distinguishing feature, I guess) and a “Blog” at the end. It’s still good reading — more thoughtful than many higher ed blogs, including this one.
- Karlyn Morrisette, whose blog I recently discovered via Dennis Miller in a recent post about the web, PR and admissions.
- Institutional Knowledge.
Go have a look.
