Tales from redesignland: 50 great makeovers

Apologies for ripping off Tales from Redesignland for the title to this post, but it seemed perfect for this entry. A co-worker pointed me to this post of 50 great examples of successful redesigns, and I thought it was worth sharing. The before-and-after examples aren’t limited to mere websites or marketing materials. They cover everything from logos to websites to packaging to products — even cartoon characters. I applaud the folks at Function Web Design & Development for taking the time to pull together these great examples of redesigns done well. Here are a few of my favorites from the list:

No. 7 – the Discovery Channel

No. 23 – BusinessWeek

No. 35 – the Simpsons

What are your faves?

  1. Well I don’t have a favorite offhand (maybe because I’ve been mired in them for years now it seems..) but I do like this post. And the trackback to the other post. A handy reminder.

  2. On second thought. I dig the BBC redesign. And Walmart needed an upgrade…not that it makes them any less…heartless and sterile? Vicks new upgrade is pretty sweet, too.

  3. As for the Walmart upgrade, I noticed that along with that redesign they’ve changed the tagline.

    It used to be:

    “Always low prices. Always.”

    Now, it’s:

    “Save money. Live better.”

Sounds as though Walmart has made the decision to move away from the “always the best deal” category to something more along the lines of “still a good value to make your life better.”

  4. I like Johnson’s baby shampoo, BBC, ToysRus, XBox, Best Buy and Amazon the best!

I just bought a bottle of Johnson’s baby shampoo a few weeks ago. Still the old bottle! I’m looking forward to getting a new one.

  5. I would have to say the AT&T logo is one of my favorites-so much more modern. Of course, the Florida division of AT&T Mobility is one of our non-education clients, so they go to the top of the list! I also like the Discovery Channel makeover. Thanks for sharing!
