Or several names, for now.
The folks at Marketing Addictionary are asking the mob to come up with a name for “A person, age 35 or older, who attempts to keep up with ‘the kids’… even if their job does not call for it.”
Some of the suggestions so far:
hipnot
Elite-Twit
Gen-Twex
geriatwix
techosaurus
e-keeper

Thanks to @MarketingProfs for the tipoff tweet.
techosaurus – although I think the next phase is geriatwix . . . ;)
It’s a shame that they don’t distinguish whether this word is intended to refer to people who “try” but fail miserably or people that actually are keeping up with the times.
If it’s intended to be an insult, I’d definitely vote for hipnot or techosaurus. However, if it’s not intended to be an insult, e-keeper and geriatwix (though geriatwix could be construed as an insult, I don’t think anyone that falls into this category would be insulted by it) are probably the best options.
I am relieved, however, to see that I’ve still got a few more years before I can be branded with the term, whatever’s decided.
